As we all know the next severe Fuel Crisis is on the way 2013ish - 200$ plus a barrel / UK Gallon around £8. My own developed zero fuel cost car uses, bar one electronic item, freely available proprietry parts - is rustless - incurs no Road Tax - all fuel costs are free for an average 12k miles annual, plus 15 to 35 percent of house electricity costs - does 80 mph - extendable range 130 miles - has no present or future means of being fuel taxeable - maintenance cost about half that of a fossil fuel car. Cost would be around that of a Ford Fiesta with aircon and mp3. This is a car more suited to 50 years time (no oil) but buildable today .....

Does anyone know or know where you can obtain the optimum engine speeds for various cars for maximum fuel efficiency? I was idley thinking of either a manual or automatic (linked to sat nav and cruise control) system whereby you could profile the driving speeds on a regular journey of say 40 miles per day.I drive 30 miles a day (x2) mainly on the M25. I am trying to see what the effect of trying to keep the engine revolutions as near to 2500 (60mph in top gear) as possible for the majority of the journey to see what the effect is on the fuel consumption. This doesn't take into account inclines of course.Obviously I have to complete the journey in a reasonable time.If one could improve the consumption by 25% (!) that would be a saving for me of about £50 a month and help the environment.Any thoughts?
