Dear All,

Further to an "advertisement" in Autotrader (as below) for a BMW X6 i proceeded to contact "Darwin" and got a very quick "positive" reply.

The "discussion" has now been going on for a few hours as i sit at my desk - im afraid im finding it somewhat ammusing although, i really do sympathise with the people who have been caught out.

The "links" sent for Yahoo and the "Shipping Company" really do look as good and positive as you can get, but, there are / were, so many small issues not adding up i put it down to this being a Scam............ I then stumbled across this forum!!!

I mean - a 2009 fully kitted out BMW X6 for £10,000 - SERIOUSLY, to loose 40k on a car "advertised" as a couple of months old just because he couldnt be bothered traveling back to the UK from, yes, you guessed it - Spain.......... It did make me laugh which is im still "playing" with him!!!

A few details for Darwin.......

Name: Darwin Ojeda
Address: Costa Luz, S/N. - Parc. 23, Punta Umbria,
Huelva, 21003, Spain (although whether this is
real remains to be seen, he
took a long time getting back
to me to give me this address)

Email: darwinojeda@msn.com

Contact Number: 020481 9841784 - Although, believe it or not, it didnt ring!!!!

Some Correspondance:

Hello,

I am glad to hear that you are interested to buy my 2009 BMW X6! Although I am registered in the UK,i recently moved to Huelva, Spain (where my family is from) and the car is being shipped from here. I want to sell it in UK due to the fact that it's an UK version (right handed),it meets all UK standards.I bought this car from UK and It still has UK registration, so you won't have to pay any import and insurance fees. The car meets all United Kingdom guidelines so there will be no problem regarding UK Customs policy on receiving the car.The car is in perfect condition, the bodywork is immaculate,no scratches, dents or hidden defects as well as the interior in excellent non-smoking condition , never been implied in any accident and it is as advertised .The car comes with log book, HPI cleared, No finance. You will get from me the keys and all documents to register the car in you name.If the car is not how i described it, i will offer a full refund. It will be insured during transportation and will be delivered at your address in maximum 10 days. Final price is GBP 10,000 (the price includes shipping and insurance fees). The price is low because the car is right hand drive in a country where all cars are left hand drive so in the Spain is very difficult to drive this type of vehicle and nobody wants to buy it here in Spain.Instead of keeping it in garage (during this economical crisis), I decided to sell it to someone back in the UK for a really attractive price.
I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate, the financial part of this deal will be managed by a company that has offices in both UK and Spain and in this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.
Let me know if you need any further details or if you would like to buy my car.
Thank you!

Im getting bored of him now, so, all you people who read this - take note - dont get SCAMMED by this idiot!!!

Take care,

Alex

Hello,

I bought this car from UK and it is still registered there so you don't have to pay any import taxes or any other fees. Before I complete shipping I will notarize the bill of sale and this bill will be sent along with the car. Here is the vrm and vin if you need to check the car:
VRM- SG07 FVW
Due to the fact that i am located outside UK and we can not deal in person,i`ve contacted Yahoo regarding this issue and they told me that they could offer to me a program that is created especially for international transactions that protects both of us.They agreed to supervise this deal.
You will send the funds to Yahoo and they will keep the money until you receive the vehicle and test it.In this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction. They will hold and insure your money until receipt of the car in good condition. That is how their service is working. As far as the seller concerns, i will be glad to know that Yahoo is in possession of the funds during the delivery period.
You will be given a 15 days inspection period from the day you receive the car at home( i will ship it to your address insured for full value to you ).
If you decide to keep the car, then you will have to authorize Yahoo to release the funds to me, and the transaction is complete. If the vehicle is not as described ( perfect interior, exterior, mechanical condition ), you will be able to send the vehicle back through the same shipping company ( return postage at my expense ), and ask Yahoo to return the money to you.
If you wish to purchase it and agree to these terms i will need you to provide your full name and address. I will then notify Yahoo and they will contact you to explain the entire procedure.
If you wish to read more about the yahoo service visit http://protection.help-yahoo.co.uk .
I will be waiting for your reply as soon as possible

Thank you in advance

Thanks for your email.

I didn't know the car was in Spain. If the car was in the UK I'd be interested but as it's in Spain and I won't be able to test drive it I'm no longer interested.

Good luck,

Hello!

Thank you for your interest in my Honda Accord. First let me say that the car is available and the total price for it is GBP 4000 (shipping and all fees included).

This car has never had paintwork and needs nothing. One of the best all around driving cars you can buy. If you have been waiting on a real clean enthusiast owned Honda, you have found it.
Probably the cleanest vehicle for sale anywhere. The interior is very clean and the body of the car is in perfect condition, no dents, dings, cracks or scratches anywhere. The engine runs very smooth and strong without any mechanical issues. The transmission is also in perfect condition running without any issues.

A Totally Rust, Corrosion Free Vehicle. Never been in any accidents. HPI Clear, still registered in the UK.

I purchased the vehicle from England and used it while I worked there. Now because of the financial crisis I moved back to my home country, Spain. I brought the vehicle in Spain with me, but as the crisis is getting worse I can't afford to keep it anymore. Probably you are wondering why I am selling it for such a low price. The market price for right handed vehicles very low ( no one will buy one ) in Spain and having a lower price than the UK market will bring me a buyer faster than having a high one.

I want to take this opportunity to assure you that this deal is 100% legitimate, the financial part of this deal will be managed by a company that has offices in both UK and Spain and in this way both buyer and seller are 100% covered during the steps of this transaction.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Best Regards

Hi Georgia,

I've just seen your car for sale advertisement on autotrader. Can you tell me a bit more about the car?

Can you tell me why you're selling it?

Are there any problems with the car?

Thanks & kind regards,

After checking, it seems there is currently only one legitimate Escrow service which is Financial Services Authority (FSA) and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) registered.

www.TrustedFriend.com opened on 1 November 2009. You can check the FSA online register to check they are legitimate.
HMRC don't offer an online register yet, but they will by the end of 2009 according to the HMRC website.

Best of all, www.TrustedFriend.com only costs £2.99.
So finally there is a legitimate Escrow service for UK car buyers and sellers. And at a fixed low price

The Audi TT - poohh: Not a real icon - not a real sports car.

Agree that the XK120 might be there BUT at least Jags are listed - There should be space for at least one MG as well!

Dear all,
THE SCAMMERS ARE BACK!

I have been looking at an Audi A5 as so browsed on Autotrader.co.uk. As expected, there was one of these vehicles offered for £10,000. Now to the shopper this looks like "Wow", buy it now. The obvious question I asked myself, and everyone should to is 'Is this too good to be true'? And, if it comes to asking this, then then answer is almost always 'Yes'. I thought that I'd just follow this up to see what would happen with no intention to ever buy the vehicle. The scammer was called James Bartrup in Huelva of all places. He said the car was ready for shipping, sat in a container in Spanish port, and all I needed to do was to send my money to a Personal Protection Service offered by Yahoo!. This does NOT exist!! Yahoo! is not Paypal nor a bank, despite its reputation elsewhere. Anyway, I thought I'd play along and said that I could easily fly and see him, save his shipping fees, and then ask for a deduction on the car price and drive it to the UK. 'He' became aloof, suggesting he had 30 or so buyers so I had to act quickly etc.. Then, all of a sudden, the advert disappeared off of Autotrader to be replaced by a new one, similar to the last, but this time far cheaper than the last, all posted by an apparent victoriasmith_49@yahoo.co.uk.

The bottom line to me is this and I don't want to state the obvious, but cars for these prices DO NOT exist, despite sob stories of 'moving to Spain/no-one wanting a right hand drive car on the continent/economic crisis' blah blah blah. These idiots are so stupid that they offer the cars at too low a price that is unrealistic to all but the most trustworthy who in good faith hope they are getting the deal of the century. If they sold them at a couple of grand less than a Parker's Price Guide listing then I would think more would be caught out as it would seem more realistic.

If seems too good to be true and you think all your luck has come at once, I would guarantee its all about to disappear at once shortly afterward.

What planet? This list is just to get peoples backs up isn't it? Audi TT, Alfa Spider, Lotus Elan???!!!! Just for starters what about Audi Quattro 4x4, Lotus Esprit, DB5(Goldfinger), DB7&9, My God the list of cars better/more iconic than your list is huge. Seriously how many people have even heard of some of the cars in the list. Audi TT...... I'm going to chuckle about that one for a while. The right car if they make any more Herbie movies!

Hi,

I agree - a very poor list.

E-type should top any list, could include the C Type or XK150.

Even the mini or Ford Capri are more iconic than some on the list.

Wot about the ultimate 4 door sports saloon - The MKII Jag ?

I could go on.

The question is - who complied thsi list?

The e-type would have to take presidence of it`s illustrious predecessors, being more iconic, than the predecessors another contributor mentioned. BMW328. The Merc, though glorious in it`s day, hardly sold. The Veyron, thought by some to the epitophme of automotive engineering. The 57typeJ. Cobra.
